Argh. Let's give this another try. I wrote it late last night and low and behold it disappeared on me. Yep, gone, gone, gone. Oh well.
As a working mom I use my weekends to rest, recharge, spend time with my family and friends, meal prep, grocery shop, do laundry, clean the house, catch up on some reading,etc. Okay, I am exhausted just listing it all. LOL!Anyway, in order to make the work week flow, these are the things that I strive to accomplish on the weekends, or as best as I can. Another thing that I do is pick out my outfits for the week. I check my calendar for events such as school visits, book clubs, professional learning development events that I might be hosting, meetings, or desk work. I also consider the forecast and then plan my five outfits accordingly. The reason I do this is:
I am not a good decision maker under pressure. Since I often do my workouts in the morning, the rest of my routine (shower, hair, make-up, breakfast) is rushed. I get overwhelmed by choices in my closet and it throws my day off.
I like to know that I am utilizing the clothes, shoes, and accessories that I keep in my closet. Planning my outfit tends to show me what I am reaching for and what needs to maybe find a new home if I am never in the mood to wear it. It also allows me to get creative with my outfits.
Generally this process takes me 10 -15 minutes on a Sunday. Once my outfits are picked out I hang them in my closet, usually on one hanger, in the order of days M-F. Usually I don't make flat lays but I did for last week just to show you how the outfits come to life. Some of the items are old favorites but I linked up some great subtitutions, or the real deal when it was still available.

Hi everyone. I am joining the sweet Ada from Elegance and Mommyhood again this week for a winter wedding look. I was actually hoping to re-shoot this little dress but it just didn't happen with work being crazy, winter days being super cold and then my little one had tonsil surgery, so it just wasn't going to happen. So instead I am re-posting this post form a wedding we attended while it was still winter here in good old Saskatchewan, and spring everywhere else. Scroll down to see all the other great looks!
Last April we were honored to celebrate the union of my husbands longtime friend Chris and his beautiful wife Jill. Chris and my husband Logan grew up together and he was the last of the three amigos to tie the knot. We have enjoyed getting to know the lovely Jill over the past couple of years. She is intelligent, kind, hard working, independent, beautiful on the inside and out, and most importantly she makes Chris happy. My hubby was extremely honored to stand by Chris' side on his special day.
Being girls we took the opportunity to get gorgeous together. We didn't plan on in but we all ended up rocking a version of the side ponytail and matching pretty well. The girls were able to re-use their dresses from the holidays and I spoiled myself with a new addition which I fell in love with upon first glance. I saw the dress at a local department store two months prior to the wedding, and then waited to see if it would go on sale, and scored it at 50% off ! Sometimes the wait is just worth it. My oldest snapped a few pictures for me and then we selfied it and kind of had a blast doing it. It was a really nice occasion to share with just the girls and we all felt pretty in our attire.
The best man got me thinking about the differences of going to a wedding in your early 20's to celebrating in your mid-30's. This is what I came up with.
1. Weddings tend to be much fancier. When Logan and I tied the knot at 21, we paid fully for our big day and we were minimalists, plus we only had 5 months to plan the big event. NO I WAS NOT KNOCKED UP.
2. Kids!!!! Seriously they are everywhere! Hahaha. You eat last because you serve the kids first. You go to the bathroom twice as much because of kids. Your conversation is interrupted constintly because someone is talking, crying, whinning, or has spilled food on you or themselves. If you have little kids you are at the mercy of their schedule. We are thankful in the stage of our lives where are kids not longer have strick shedules, bedtimes, eating routines. We are also over being the "perfect" parents, so they basically just run wild and we take the title of "irresponsible" parents willingly. But in all honesty, it warms my heart to see all my friends, their little ones and our little ones creaking their own bonds and friendships with one another. A new generation of friends.
3. Dancing all night is a full on aerobic exercise routine. Yep, in your 30s dancing all night equals a checkmark for working out because lets face it you have to squeeze it in somewhere and it won't be tomorrow. Tomorrow is a rest day, trust me. Remember dancing all night at the bar and then working out the next day?
(FYI, I love dancing and I shut the party down still wearing my heels)
4. Paying for it! This brings me to my next point, you no longer can function the next day if you went hard the night before. Depending how hard you went, you may be a lost cause for a couple of days, resorting to the only parenting techinique left, allowing your children to be babysat by the Disney channel or some other form of crappy entertainment and snack food for beakfast, lunch & supper. The good news, your kids will think they hit the JACKPOT and they will love you more than ever.
5. You buy real gifts. Now that you have a real job, you need to man up and actually buy a proper gift, or in our case give $$$. People getting married in their 30's likely have enough crap and would like to upgrade their crap or help pay for the wedding/honeymoon.
All in all we had an absolute blast at the wedding surrounded by friends we've had for years. In the craziness of life, I am so thankful to still have these people always in my corner. Not much in life can be better than that.

I would have worn black to all of the weddings I went to this year, but the one that I was in required a certain type of dress and color. I don't know why but I feel like black is just so classy, and it can be gloomy to some people, but if you dress it up right you're good to go! I mean, at least I have fun colored shoes on right?"
Hi friends. I am back with another wear now and later post, see the how I styled my white dress for summer and fall here. As we start to think about transitioning from summer, insert sob here, to fall I am reaching for some of my favorite pieces that didn't get any wear at the lake, such as this little romper from Marshalls. Guess what?!? We are getting a Marshall's here next week and I am so excited. Now that I've had success shopping at Winners and Marshall's, see tips for shopping in these store here, I am excited to hit them up fairly regularly.
This is my last week of official summer, though I've been working half days from home/office/school, but we were able to get downtown for a picnic for a family picnic lunch. Once winter descends upon us it's hard to get downtown as a family and we all love the river/bridge views that our city provides us so I am so happy that we seized this opportunity to enjoy it before schedules, routines and life takes over our carefree summer days. I was happy to have an opportunity to dress up a little and decided to pair the romper with my pearly pink mules that I purchased at Nordstrom Rack while in Portland and my trusted little white backpack from London. This backpack is super cute and functional. Halie loves it too and has been "borrowing" it a lot lately, along with some of my clothes. Hmmmm. I am not sure how I feel about us "sharing" clothing.
How will I wear it in the fall? Well ladies first things first. I got new hair!!!! Yep, I went darker, brunette, inspired by Becca Kufrin from the Bachelorette. I love, love, love it. It totally feels like me, probably because it's pretty close to my natural color only better and shinier. Anyway, as the days and evenings get chillier, I have my jean jacket (sale alert) to throw over it. I love my jean jacket, it's completely neutral and goes with anything and everything it seems. A great investment piece in my opinion that is good through all seasons, even in winter I use it sometimes over little dresses inside, kind of like a blazer/cardigan. Anyway, I absolutely love how pink and gray go together like PB &J so I pulled out my little gray booties, and added the darker shade of burgundy to the mix. And the lips!!! I went way out of my comfort zone last winter when I picked this rich, bold, burgundy shade, Diva, up from Mac and have loved it ever since! What's your favorite lipstick shades for fall?

Generally off the shoulder dresses, shirts, rompers, etc. are not my jam because let's be honest when you are 30+ and a C cup, you need/want to wear a bra. Am I right?!? I am not a big fan of strapless bras but if you have a kind that you swear by I'd love to hear from you. That being said, this little dress has been in my closet now for 3 years and I wear it a lot. I just love how it feels and moves on my body. It's the perfect dress for extreme heat as it's breathable, light and flowy. I also love styling it with a belt or letting it flow. I wore this dress for Mother's Day weekend and it was absolutely the perfect mix of trendy and comfortable.
