Sweater Weather: Staying Stylish Through Winter

Happy Monday friends!  Now that the weather has finally improved I feel so much happier and lighter (although work in nuts with report cards, new reporting systems, and Omnicron raging through staff and students).  That all being said, the fact that it is no longer unbearable and unsafe to be outdoors for more than a couple of minutes (no joke), we spent the last week getting outdoors sledding, cross country skiing, running, walking and enjoying winter.  I am looking forward to the end of the month when we can sneak away to our home away from home, our cabin, where these pictures were taken.

In winter my staples are cute sweaters.  Sweaters with jeans.  Sweaters over dresses.  Sweaters with skirts.  Sweaters with leggings.  The combinations and coziness is endless.  This oversized sweater is heavily in rotation late fall and through winter.  It can be a loose fitting tunic.  A sweater dress cinched at the waist with a cute belt.  An oversized, tucked into loose fitting or skinny jeans.  Pair this look with some leather casual booties like my Blundstones, cute knitted toque and mitts, for a weekend winter look.  Since the weather was mild you can throw on a vest for added warmth or if you are going out for drinks in the city, pair this with some cute slouchy heeled booties, throw on your wool dress coat, and leave it over to showcase your outfit.  Whatever your agenda is, having an oversized sweater gives you plenty of options to dress it up or down depending on your lifestyle but you never have to comprise on comfort or style.

Tell me something good about your weekend or the upcoming week!!!!

Cozy Mornings: Reading Socks, Pups and Coffee Mugs

In my real, day to day life, mornings are busy and a time to get things off the ground as soon as the alarm sounds off at 5:30 a.m.   That's life and that how things get done.  That being said, I have embraced and absolutely covet my lazy mornings that weekends sometimes bring, and even more so our lazy mornings at the cabin.  When we are at the cabin, especially in the winter, there is nothing to wake up and get going for.  It's all about having too many cups of coffee, cuddling up on the couch, reading our books and enjoying our time together.  The teen doesn't usually emerge from her bedroom until 11 a.m. and the little one usually sleeps in as well or joins us on the couch for a good old cuddle like when she was teeny-tiny.

Last year, I invested in a few lounging pieces.  Usually my collection of sleepwear are old t-shirts and random pj pants I've had for 10+ years.  This is an areas that was lacking so last year I invested in a cozy, fleece lined nightgown that I found and knew immediately that would be perfect for the cool winter mornings at the lake.  Pair it up with leggings and my reading socks and sometimes you'll find me sporting this way past noon.  My dad would be mortified, he likes people to get dressed as soon as they are out of bed, but at the lake, regular life rules DO NOT APPLY.  I also have this adorable floral robe that I use int he spring and all summer long, while I drink my coffee on the desk, basking in the early morning sun, see here.

All the pictures of my husband and I are done courtesy of our 10 year old photographer.  I think she did very well.

Do you invest in some cute lounge wear or sleepwear pieces?

Cozy Winter Outfit Formula: Leggings, Tee, Cardigan & Blanket Scarf

I am back!  I decided to take a much needed week off from all social media and enjoy time with the family.  We embraced the outdoors and focused on appreciating the winter season.  The kids had a week off from school and I have a blog post coming up on Wednesday, March 7th depicting what we were up to.  Onto the weekly style post.  Guess what?!?  I was in outdoor, mommy gear, cozy comfort, easy to pull on your ski-pants style over, all week long.  You bet!  No fancy shoes, make-up, hair styles.  No office wear, skirts, dresses, or stylish jewelry.  It was all about feeling good and being able to add or take off layers on depending on t he weather and activity we were engaging in.

Now generally I don't wear leggings as pants unless they are my running leggings which I wear for running.   I do however love how this outfit came together and was perfect for getting outdoors, running a couple of errands around the city, but also throwing on my winter gear quickly without any changes needed.  My cardigan is longer in the back so it covers my butt and pairing it up with a blanket scarf that hangs down also created a look of layers in the front.  I feel like blanket scarves just add just the right amount of  fun to an otherwise pretty basic/standard outfit, see examples here and here, plus the mixing of plaid and polka dots is super cute.  Such an easy style to pull together.   Leggings, basic tee, cardigan and a blanket scarf.  Who doesn't have these pieces in their closet?  When I hit the outdoors, I just loose the scarf, pull on my ski-pants and winter coat, and I am ready to play in the snow.

What's your easy winter style outfit?
