Ageless Style: Birthday Party Attire

Welcome back to our monthly Ageless Style!  After taking last month off from blogging, I am back with the ladies of Ageless Style and this months prompt is brought to you by our October baby, Marsha Banks of Marsha in the Middle.  Happy birthday to Marsha!  I don't know about you but for the most part we and our friends keep birthdays pretty low key nowadays unless its a milestone birthday.  We usually get together for a dinner/appies and drinks, which for most of us in the parenting years is a night out with the adults!  Woot, woot!

A night out with adult friends is a treat and I always like to put a little extra effort into looking and feeling good.  I wore this outfit this past weekend when we went out.  Full disclosure, I've wanted to wear it since last winter but feel self-conscious.  Am I too old?  Should I be showing my midriff?  Does it seem like I am trying too hard?  Is it appropriate?  And on and on go the questions.  My 16 year old was like, yes it's cute.  I don't understand why you are so unsure.  She honestly had no idea what was going through my head.  Isn't that AWESOME?!?  I love that she confident!  That she is sure of her clothing choices.  Something I didn't have at her age and am still working on at 41.  Regardless I took the chance and went for it and the longer I wore it, the more it felt like me.  Sometimes we have to go through the uncomfortable for it to feel more comfortable.

Anyways you can see this crop top paired with it's matching knitted skirt  here, which I had not doubts about and absolutely LOVE!!!  I paired it up with pleather pants from my teens closet, and decided to throw on my vegan leather shacket over top to play with the browns and textures.  Top it off with bold red lips and you look confident and I am of the mind 'fake it, 'till you make it" and by the end of the night, I made it.  😉

I am featuring what I wore to my soon to be niece's baby shower.  The skirt is not new to the blog, see here how I styled  it three different ways.  I always try to invest in pieces that I can see myself wearing for multiple occasions, especially ones that I can style for work and for mom-on-duty.   As mentioned before my mom made this circle skirt for me, but I am linking these two gorgeous options from Chicwish and  Modcloth .

I love how the lace in the top pairs up with the floral pattern to make it extra, extra girly and sweet.  Crop tops are always a bit scary for me as my mid-riff is something I don't expose a lot, unless at the beach, but I  have worn it with high waisted jeans, here and here,  and I think it's totally mom/30+ appropriate.   This top was purchased last year but I would love to order this crochet crop t-shirt from  Romwe .  Friends, what are the Romwe sizes like?  Do you often have to return items?  Do you pay for the shipping charges back?

Now how about this amazing Kate Spade bag that was a gift to me from me while on our trip to Orlando.  I love the vibrant color and how it adds a splash to any outfit.

Have a great weekend sweet friends and my fellow Canadians, Happy Canada Day!!!

Weekend Wear

Around here the weather has been changing on a daily basis which means I am tappin' into both my summer and fall wardrobe.  I always post my work related outfits, so this week I am switching gears and showcasing two very casual, mommy outfits. Realistically when I get home from work, or on the weekends, I wear very comfy, casual clothing.   My first outfit is all about the embracing the change in the season, while the second one is about hanging on to summer for just a little bit longer.

Look #1 The comfy and sporty look.  Honestly I should probably share more of these because they are truly what I mostly live in.  I am a fairly active person who enjoys running, boot camp, walking,  biking, and exploring the outdoors. Lately we have been getting outside and exploring various hiking trails right here in our city.  It started with Logan and I taking the dog for daily walks by our river in the city while our girls were away in B.C. with my parents.  Since the girls have returned we have been sharing these new found places with them and  have enjoyed getting outdoors as a family.  Being outside fills "my bucket" (if you are a parent or a teacher you are familiar with this story, Have You Filled a Bucket Today?).

Most of my "off time" is spent wearing lululemon athletic wear  all year long.  The thing about lululemon gear is that you really don't need to have a lot of it.  I have a couple of long pants, couple of capris, couple of pairs of shorts, 4 tank tops and 3 long sleeved tops.  I have had these items for YEARS and I just keep washing and wearing them; and I wear them all the time for both running and leisure activities.

Look #2   I just love this crop top!  I was somewhat hesitant to purchase a crop top at my age, but I am so glad that I did.  :)   I paired it up with my skinny jeans and flats for a casual look for a family gathering. It was a warm weekend and we spent a lot of time just hanging out in a hall.

I have also paired this top with my culotte pants (here) for work.  I am going to keep this top in my rotation through the fall season and pair it up with my navy blazer and also my jean jacket.
