White Jeans For Fall: Outfit #1

 Lately I’ve been grabbing for my white jeans a whole lot.  All spring and summer they were hardly in rotation, maybe twice,  and all of a sudden they are having their moment in my day-to-day life, so I decided that I wanted to show you three ways to wear your white jeans through fall and winter over the next three Fridays.

Here in Saskatchewan we often just skip over the ‘fall’ season and jump right into winter.  We have already had a couple of visits from the white fluffy stuff but thankfully it melts away rather quickly .  That being said the rest of the world is easing into fall and this outfit would totally be acceptable to wear as a transitional outfit.  The lovely Larrisa of Lovely Roots Photography did these pictures in late summer/early fall for me on the riverbank.  Looking back on these photos makes me long for longer and warmer days.  We have so much natural beauty around our city and getting out to shoot some outfits before the cold settles in has been one of my goals.   My favorite picture is the carefree one below.  I wish I could go back to that moment.

Okay, outfit.  Let’s talk about this chambray shirt.  What isn’t there to absolutely love?  What’s the best feature?  Well the giant bow is an instant show stopper!  I love the delicate white trim, the balloon sleeves, the tassel on the sleeves, and  the wrap style which really accentuates a ladies natural curves.  IF I were brave, and not wearing it to work, I wouldn’t layer the white camisole underneath, but I would embrace my curves much like Melissa did last week on Mom With Style.  Another favorite piece of mine are these peep toe booties.  They have such a short season here in Saskatchewan that they don’t get worn out and thus they are on their 3^rd or maybe even 4^th season in my closet.  Confession, after summer I get lazy about keeping up with pedicures so that’s another reason I often don’t wear them because I just feel like I need pretty nails to wear open-toe shoes.

Wrap It Up With a Bow

 

 

A little bit boho.  A little twist on the chambray shirt.  A little bow on the side.  What more could a girl want in a blouse?  I've had this in my closet for close to two months and I can't believe I haven't shared it on here until now.  Like the kimono I styled a few weeks ago, a wrap shirt was on my spring/summer wish list (see here).  I actually stumbled upon it when I was frantically searching for a straw bag that I could order online within Canada and I found it at Zara, along with this top.  The great thing about Zara now is that you can order and ship back for free.  I instantly knew I wanted this top and ordered it in both small and medium because I often find their sizing varies. For reference I keep the medium, mostly for the length. 

 

This blouse has too many cute details.  The obvious ones being that it's a wrap shirt, the side tie-up can be done in multiple ways but I prefer a big bow.  The sleeves have a bit of the balloon shape to them, the tassel tie-ups on the sleeves add to the boho, care-free style that I love for this time of year, and also the delicate embroidery ion the sleeves.  For $50 this shirt really had it all for me.  I can wear it casually out and about, or to work.  I can't wait to pair it with some denim and white shorts in the summer as I run errands around the city, or head to the farmers market. 

 

 

 

I recently wore this when we went out to watch the Cirque Du Solei show Crystal.  It was nothing short of phenomenal.  The talent, ability, strength, story, characters, were all incredible.  I was so glad we were able to share the experience with our girls as well.  They left inspired and in awe of the performance, and of course a huge appreciation for the arts and the performers.

One of the color combination that really caught my eye this year while perusing Pinterest was moss green, light blue and mauve.  I had the idea to put the moss green with my chambray top for a cute transition into spring look.  Unfortunately the day I was going to take pictures also happened to be the day right after we had a massive dump of snow :)  To see this look with little booties and a more  appropriate office version, click HERE. 

 

For a fun little twist, I decided to tie a front knot in my chambray shirt.  Generally, I am on the shy side when it comes to showing my mid-riff but I think it's pretty cute and still age appropriate.  The knot dresses the classic pleated skirt down a bit and makes it just a tad flirty.  This outfit makes me feel young and carefree, which is not my regular state of mind these days.  Heehee.

 

I am very much looking forward to swapping my winter closet out and bringing in my spring wardrobe, which I started doing this past weekend.  I am ready to say hello to color, bight florals, open toed shoes, flats, and light layers.

Fashion Friday: Three Outfits from the Fall Style Challenge

 

Hello everyone, it's finally the end of the work week and we are heading into the Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend.  I am super pumped to get away to the lake  and also to get together with family friends for a turkey dinner.

 

Today I am sharing three outfits that I have complied and made my own over the first couple of weeks of the Get Your Pretty On Fall 2017 Style Challenge.  I've shared my recaps before, here, here, and here.  If your are interested in joining one of the current style challenges, check out the links at the end of this post.  

Onto to three simple outfits you can re-create for your own lifestyle and with what's in your closet.  Enjoy!

  

 

Prompt #1:  Moto Jacket, White Tee, Olive Jeans, Printed Scarf & Slip on Sneakers

 

My Take:  Work Wear Culottes

 

I know, I know.  You are thinking, "you go this out of that prompt?!?"  Here is the deal, I don't have olive jeans, well I didn't at the time but do now.  I absolutely adore these culottes that I picked up in London last year and subbed them in for the olive pants.   I stuck to the white tee portion and printed scarf, but added a denim jacket with some heels for work. 

 

Let's talk culottes! To be honest I had been crushing on culottes forever but I never thought they would work on my short body, I am only 5'4".  Anyway, these do and what I feel is the trick for them is that they are high-waisted, making my lower body appear longer and also my waist smaller, which it's not as a result of over-indulging in pretzels dipped in Nutella.

Prompt #2:  Gray Sweatshirt, Gray Jeans, Statement Necklace & Velvet Shoes

 

My take: Weekend Style

 

I was actually able to wear a casual look because it was finally the weekend.  I always wear jeans on the weekend because it's the only time I am really allowed to.  I just love this look.  It's casual, comfortable and stylish.  I especially love my new purse from H & M and  the deep, wine color of it (it's sold out in this color but they do have It in black here).  Oh, and did I mention these cute, lace up flats were only $11 at Walmart?!?

 

 

Prompt #3:  Gray Sweatshirt, Grayed Hem Jeans, Printed Scarf and Slip on Sneakers

 

My take:  From Office to Casual Mom

 

My favorite part of this outfit is that I got to do both a work look and casual look in one day.  I basically flipped the prompt for the office and had a TON of compliments on it; and to think that chambray shirt was on my "maybe"  pile.  Instead of the printed scarf I added some leopard print to my feet and classy pearls for the office.

 

For running the kids to gymnastics that evening I paired up this cute, ruffled tee from H & M  and I styled it with casual jeans, sneakers and a printed scarf.

Fashion Friday: Maxi Dress 4 Ways

I've been working on wearing each item in my closet for the past couple of weeks and staying away from stores until we go on our trip to the Disney World.  I have more than enough pieces in my closet, not a crazy amount,  but enough that I don't need to be reaching for my credit card for a while.  Anyway one of the items that came up in the rotation was this maxi dress.  I was fretting about whether I wanted to keep it anymore, it's not super trendy, but I really do find it comfortable and easy to throw on.  As I was thinking about what outfits I could create, I ended up coming up with four different ways that I could style it and make it work appropriate.   

Style #1- Dress, cardigan and floral scarf

I love pattern mixing, it's an easy way to add flare to any outfit.

 

Style #2- Dress, bomber jacket (my on trend piece) and a chunky statement necklace

 

 

Style #3 Dress, chambray shirt and long necklace

This might be casual for work but it's totally weekend/patio drinks appropriate.  I also had a little fun playing with different ways to style the chambray top,  mine is a pretty light material so it isn't too bulky.

 

Style #4- Dress, fun scarf & statement earnings

I think this works for work because it provides lots of cover around the shoulders and neckline; plus as the weather heats up so do some of the buildings I go into.

Fashion Friday: Three Simple Outfits For Every Woman

Hi friends!  Well the Get Your Pretty On Spring Style Challenge wrapped up last Sunday and I am going to share three outfits provided by Alison of GYPO that I loved from weeks 2 & 3, that  I feel any woman could re-create.  What you will discover is that the prompts provided are super simple and you are encourage to interpret, substitute and adjust the them to suite your daily lifestyle.  Here we go:

 

Simple Outfit #1

Prompt: Cardigan + Chambray Dress + Printed Scarf + Lace Up Flats

My style:  White jeans, basic tank, chambray shirt, my favorite necklace/locket, peep-toe booties and my trusted Nine West spring purse (which I hope to replace with a Kate Spade satchel next month when we go to Disneyworld on a family trip).

 

Simple Outfit #2

Prompt: Bomber Jacket + White Tee + Colored Denim + Metallic Sneakers

 

My Style: This was a perfect prompt for doubling up as both casual and work appropriate. I wore my fringed skirt (styled here) and bomber jacket (styled here) for the office and quickly threw on some jeans after work for Miss. H's fine arts gala performance.  I love playing with patterns and textures.  Polka dots and florals actually go really well together and  I also mixed it up by adding these forest green pumps for a pop of unexpected color!

 

 

Simple Outfit #3

Prompt: Striped Blazer + Floral Top + White Jeans + Sandals

 

My Style:  I would I stayed  closest to this prompt out of the three.  I've got the white jeans, which go with everything, palm tree/sunset tank and the stripes on my wedges.  I love how this outfit came together for a casual day with the kids.
