Corn Maze Days

To kick off fall we ventured to a nearby town to their corn maze.  We've been going for years and years, see picture below.  It's become one of our favorite fall family traditions and although the kids are less enthused they never fight going and always enjoy it.  What I am finding now as a mom of a tween and teen is that they also kind of like to cling to a few family traditions and rituals even though they are growing their independence and separating from their childhood.  I hope to one day be able to witness them becoming parents and carrying on some of these little traditions into their own families.  

The Rosthern Youth Corn Maze is our favorite by far because it grows with the family.  There is endless stuff to do, including two corn mazes, children's and an adult one, a bouncy area, wall climbing, a pumpkin patch area for pictures and to buy pumpkins, various games and activities, a wagon & train ride, food and drinks, and our favorite a petting zoo.  It's a great way to support a local organization and enjoy a full afternoon of fun.  We grown to enjoy and indulge in their mini-donuts and either a warm coffee/hot chocolate or this year slushies because it was so warm.  

I wore this totally casual button up.  I am actually loving button up shirt this year and I've add a couple to my closet.  This one was purchased at Belong Lifestyle here in town but guess what?!?  They ship all over Canada and even have a location in the states Belong Lifestyle USA.  The ladies focus on celebrating and empowering women of all shapes and sizes.  I absolutely love their inclusivity and their dedication to uplifting women.  I decided to give it a little twist by tying a knot in the front and adding my floppy hat for the afternoon.  It wasn't too breezy so my hat actually stayed put, which is one of the main reasons I don't wear it as often as I should.   I actually really want to add a felt fedora hat in tan for fall 2021 and I think I am going to order it from Ten Tree, see link below.

Casual Fall Outfit & Sharing Clothing With My Daughter

It finally happened!  I BORROWED something from my daughters closet!  In fact I not only borrowed it but I am featuring it right here on the blog.  See this super cozy, bold, cheery, fun stripped sweater?  It's hers!  Yep, it belongs to my 12.5 year old and we are now officially going into each others closets.  By that, I mean she's gone into mine a few times and this is a first for me, but I feel like I am entering a new world.  Hahahaha.  

We ventured out to our annual corn maze family day.  This is my favorite fall tradition, well this and trick or treating as a family.  We've been going to the Rosthern Youth Corn Maze as long as I can remember, see picture below of my little ones, and we always have a blast.  It's also become a perfect backdrop for a cozy fall outfit, see here and here.  This year I wanted to showcase my favorite pair of jeans, high waisted, Rockstar jeans from ON.  I love the fit of these jeans.  I almost always buy the Rockstars from ON because they are consistent in size, structure, fit, durability and the price can't be beat.  I instantly knew I wanted to feature a cozy, comfortable and oversized sweater with them.  I don't have one but if you read my picks for fall 2019 trends last week, see here, you know that's something I want to add to my closet.  Now that I am not wearing office attire 80% of the time, I feel like I can add a few casual sweaters back into my wardrobe and I can wear them to work and around town.  This particular top came from Urban Planet but I am linking up a few other options for you below.  I am also into hair accessories since spring, so this little cute leopard print side clip was the icing on the cake.

Styling My Way Through a Corn Maze: White Jeans Outfit #2

One of my favorite family traditions that we have as a family is going to Youth Bible Corn Maze in Rosthern.  Years ago we stumbled upon it somehow and just kept returning to it time and time again, until it became a fall tradition for our family, read about last years adventures here.  Over the years have watched the business grow and include more and more things to do and explore.  There are the two corn mazes, kids and adults, petting zoo, climbing wall, pumpkin patch picture area, train rides, etc.  We've done it all over the many years we've gone but the last two years the exciting thongs for the girls have been conquering both mazes and finding all four secret stamps.  This year we started in the adult maze because it took us forever last year, like a solid hour, but this year we found the three stamps within the first 15 minutes.  We just got really lucky but then we ventured into the kids maze feeling pretty cocky and it took us at least a half-hour to find the one stamp.  I guess you just never know when you'll get lucky and choose all the right turns and when you wont.  Hahaha.  Either way we got all four stamps and the kids were thrilled!  What a wonderful way to spend a glorious Sunday afternoon as a family.

Now on to the outfit.  If you stopped by last Friday you know that I have three ways to wear white jeans in the fall, see outfit #1 HERE.  For the corn maze I used country style for inspiration.  It was the white jeans that I started with when picking out this outfit, it was that I really wanted to wear my cowboy boots that don't get a lot of love in the city.  That was my starting point and then my plaid shirt complements the colors on the cowboy boots so well, plus is PLAID (enough said).  Because I layered a black tank underneath so I could knot tie my shirt without belly showing, I figured the white jeans were the perfect contrast and pop of color for this outfit.  I absolutely love how easy, relaxed, natural and perfectly this outfit came together for this particular event.  Honestly I really wanted to just go all causal and natural, minimal make-up (foundation, mascara and lip chap ) and blow-dried my hair, that's it.   This look would work for any country outing, pumpkin patch, apple patch, zoo trip or a stroll through the woods.

A Belted Blanket Scarf (and a Corn Maze)

 

 

Last weekend, also Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, our family hit the road to for our annual trip to the corn maze.  This has become a fall tradition for our little, not so little anymore, family.  It's a time to unwind and enjoy the fresh air, the open farm land, the outdoors, and the child within all of us.  It's so much more then just a corn maze, they have a petting zoo, a wall climb, a bouncy trampoline type of thing, a hay ride, you name it, they've thought of it.

 

Last year was the first time we successfully completed both corn mazes and we found all four of the hidden stamps.  This year we had a heck of a time but the girls were relentless and we spent a good hour and forty-five minutes in the two mazes searching for the stamps.  I was vetoed by my lovely husband and kids numerous times when I tried to persuade them to quit.  They were having none of it!!!!

Onto the outfit!

 

 

I layered up for the day as it's been quite chilly, and windy, around these parts.  Plaid shirt, gray cardigan, and then my blanket scarf!  I decided to switch  it up and use it as a poncho/cape rather than the traditional blanket scarf around the neck.  I belted it, belts are so in this fall,  and I love how it turned out, not to mention how warm it kept me.  Bonus!!!
