Let It Snow, Let It Snow! & My Flare Jeans

On this particular day we  had planned to do our Christmas family photo because it was going to be mild and all of a sudden the snow just stared falling down.  It made our photos extra beautiful and I am thrilled with how they turned out.  Since the weather was so perfect and were were at a beautiful location already,  I decided that it was a perfect time to snap these photos for the blog.  This fall I decided to add these flare jeans to my small jean collection, and I couldn't be happier with them.  I've already gotten so much wear out of them and so many compliments on them, sorry they were a sale item that I randomly found, but I will link up a few other options below.  They are still high waisted (I never want that to go out of style), fitted through the hips, legs and then flare out.  I love the cute front pockets, just yesterday my tweens friends asked me why my jeans had back pockets in the front, LOL.  I am also super happy that I have my mom, who is a seamstress, was able to hem them for me.  At only 5'4", I often find it difficult to find pants that aren't too long, especially a flare cut like these.  As soon as you have to have them hemmed, you loose a lot of the flare affect, but I am really happy how these turned out. If you are hemming pants, I suggest picking out the type of footwear you are most likely going to wear the pants with and hem according to that.  I choose my low heeled booties because I love how they peak out the bottom, but the jeans also look great with my white sneakers as they have a good little platform on them. On this day, I dressed the jeans up slightly with a light knit sweater, that's structured and form fitting, has gold button detailing down the arm.  I love how this combination created a longer line for me, making me look slightly taller.  I also added a punch of color with my favorite red lipstick to stand out a little.   Over the past couple of months I've  paired the jeans up with oversized band tees and sneakers, oversized sweaters, and a blazer for casual Friday at work.

Future Planning and Fall Floral

I admit this with a heavy heart, but summer is over for the most part.  Fall is here.  Brisk mornings.  Often chilly and windy days.   Although I love fall fashion and all the layers, it's always bittersweet to say goodbye to summer.  We have officially returned to school and so far so good, but for the kids its only been a couple of days.  Usually I would have my fall magazines, and be browsing the shops both in person and online but this year I am really struggling to be enthused about buying anything.  I am not really sure why the funk, but it's not so bad for the pocket book.  Hahaha.  At this moment I am all about using the pieces in my closet and giving them lots of spotlight.  A simple dark floral top, paired with some jeans or tucked into a pencil skirt, is the perfect way to transition from our carefree summers to a more structured fall.  I love a moody floral print for a top, dress or a blazer.  

I wore this outfit when we decided to make a Dairy Queen visit with the kids a few weeks ago.  You guys, BLIZZARDS are delicious!!!!!  Seriously, it's been years and I had totally forgotten that they were that good.  The DQ is across the street from the University and we decided to take a stroll through the deserted grounds.  It's sad to see it so quite, while I remember the energy and vibes of young people milling around the grounds, especially as we begin a new school year.  Our University grounds are gorgeous and walking them is always a treat.  As we were walking my girls were both asking so many questions about the different buildings, the process for getting into University, where people live, how many classes you take, how long you go, etc.  My oldest is 13 and it was really neat to hear her saying things like "When I come here"and "This is going to be my building."  That kind of talk tells me that she sees herself as a university graduate.  That she feels confident in herself as a learner.  That she has high hopes and expectations of herself.  No, we don't need them to go to university.  But I do want them to know that there are many options available to them.  That they have possibilities and that we will do our best to support them.  Also, like most parents I do want to know that they will be able to support themselves and choose paths that hopefully they are always passionate about, but that we also have to work hard to achieve our goals.  My 13 year old has her sights set on veterinarian school.  She would love to work specifically with horses, but is interested in all the animals from small/pet like, to large farm animals.  Not sure where this will all go, but I am happy that she is having a positive dialogue about her future.  

My youngest, was in awe of all the buildings and even though she doesn't have a clear goal at this time, I mean she is only 10 LOL, she knows that this is a possibility.  I think of so many children that don't know that this is an option, and even more importantly that it doesn't feel like an option.  That go through high school not having that even on a choice board.  So I write this because I am grateful that my girls do.  I am grateful that we will be able to support them, no necessarily pay for their education fully, but still support them emotionally and financially in some ways.  I am grateful that these are the stories they tell themselves.

It actually feels good to be blogging right now.  Normal.  Something I used to do before COVID-19.  Taking pictures is of course a little interesting these days as we don't want to be going too far from home and certainly we want to avoid crowds.  We were able to get a few outfits shot last weekend before, are you ready for this.....WINTER came back. Yep, April 1st, we got a dump of snow, along with cold temperatures.  I guess mother nature also continues to be unexpected which is "normal" for us here in Saskatchewan.

I love this outfit and basically it's become my uniform.  Jeans, tee + cardigan.  I am still putting on some make-up and jewelry to feel human.   After a few full  P.J. days I knew I needed to start getting dressed and getting stuff done.  Anyone else feel sluggish all day long if they don't get dressed?

These jeans were a steal of a deal you guys.  Get this?!?  $4.97!!!!!  You read that right.  I was at ON because the only two pairs of jeans I own both busted in a week span, one the zipper went on and the other ones suddenly got a whole in the butt.  I was desperate for a pair and generally I always find something at ON.  I headed there, before all the stores closed, and found these.  I have been wanting a pair of high-waisted, button fly jeans forever.  I saw my blogger friend Jill of Doused in Pink wearing them months ago and I loved them on her.  She has great casual style so make sure to check her out.  And there they were!  Anyway, I love the fit, feel, the high -waist, and the cute raw hem detail, which is perfect for spring.  I also love that I can wear them to work eventually on casual Fridays, there are no holes or any major distress on them. Win!  I also decided to take this basic tee, which is long and loose, and tie it at the front.  I love how the look came together!

Another steal of a deal was this cute little Pixie Mood backpack.  I needed a new one but wasn't interested in dropping a bunch of money.  I went on a local buy and sell and found it for half-price brand new!  Do you buy things on buy & sells?

Casual Fall Outfit & Sharing Clothing With My Daughter

It finally happened!  I BORROWED something from my daughters closet!  In fact I not only borrowed it but I am featuring it right here on the blog.  See this super cozy, bold, cheery, fun stripped sweater?  It's hers!  Yep, it belongs to my 12.5 year old and we are now officially going into each others closets.  By that, I mean she's gone into mine a few times and this is a first for me, but I feel like I am entering a new world.  Hahahaha.  

We ventured out to our annual corn maze family day.  This is my favorite fall tradition, well this and trick or treating as a family.  We've been going to the Rosthern Youth Corn Maze as long as I can remember, see picture below of my little ones, and we always have a blast.  It's also become a perfect backdrop for a cozy fall outfit, see here and here.  This year I wanted to showcase my favorite pair of jeans, high waisted, Rockstar jeans from ON.  I love the fit of these jeans.  I almost always buy the Rockstars from ON because they are consistent in size, structure, fit, durability and the price can't be beat.  I instantly knew I wanted to feature a cozy, comfortable and oversized sweater with them.  I don't have one but if you read my picks for fall 2019 trends last week, see here, you know that's something I want to add to my closet.  Now that I am not wearing office attire 80% of the time, I feel like I can add a few casual sweaters back into my wardrobe and I can wear them to work and around town.  This particular top came from Urban Planet but I am linking up a few other options for you below.  I am also into hair accessories since spring, so this little cute leopard print side clip was the icing on the cake.

From Day to Night: Olive Jeans and Three More Outfit Ideas

 

I'm back.  Last week I took a little break, basically I just couldn't get everything done and the blog had to take a backseat.  Honestly, it's getting easier to accept that and I don't stress about as much these days. Life is full of choices and priorities, so I make them and I have to live with them.   Maybe it's the fact that I am getting older or maybe I am less motivated, either way, I am here and happy to be here this week! 

I finally jumped on the olive jeans bandwagon this fall.  I have always liked them but everything I add into my closet pretty much has to have multiple purposes and ways to be worn.  When I discovered these Design Lab Lord and Taylor pants at the Bay, I quickly realized they can work as casual pants as well as work attire.  These pants aren't "jeans" and I find they can be dressed up so that they appear more like a casual pair of dress pants.   I literally went from office TO life as "mommy" in one day with these pants.  I quickly swapped out the blazer for a cozy cardigan, my new H&B Vega statement necklace for my owl  chain, and heels for riding boots.  Done!
