Ageless Style: Styling Skinny Jeans

Hello friends!  Coming in hot with skinny jeans today for our Ageless Style.  When Jodie from Jodie's Touch of Style suggested skinny jeans, I was pumped.  I know, I know, they are less popular than they used to be but not really.  Where ever you go, they still have them on shelves, racks and displays, it's just that they also have wide leg, straight leg, and even flared as an option.  We are no longer being pushed towards skinny jeans or leggings, but have lots of choice, which I am all in for.  So, no I haven't thrown away my skinny jeans but I have diversified my pant selection such as flare, corduroy and even mom jeans.  Anyway, the reason I love skinny jeans is that they work with ALL footwear.  Seriously, I can wear sneakers, loafers, booties, tall booties, OTKB, flats, etc.  I paired my skinny jeans for a really basic, sleek and chic look today.  Keeping it basic with black turtle neck, combat boots, leather jacket and purse.  I love how this look came together for a day of Christmas shopping, hence the need for a large coffee.  Where are you guys with your Christmas readiness?  10%, 25%, 50%, 80%, or all done?!?  I am going with 75-80% at this point.

Sunday Comfort

Ahhhh.  Sundays.  On the one hand they are dreadful because you are beginning to think about the week ahead, on the other hand they are that last bit of rest and relaxation you have to take advantage of.  Most Sundays are spent  with numerous cuddles with Oreo, several cups of coffee throughout the day, taking walks in nature, meal prepping and mid-day naps.  If I do venture out in public or to the stores, which with Christmas being so close is a given,  this is exactly the type of outfit you will see me out and about in, casual comfort.  Another pair of pants snagged from the teens discarded pile, these wide leg cords have become a favorite for casual days at the school, for running errands, or just keeping it real in life.  They pair so well with the softest color block sweater I have ever owned!  I purchased this at a local boutique, Belong Lifestyle,  for $15 when it was their 'daily deal' and I've worn it so many times already.  Anytime I need to look put together and casual but feel like staying in bed, I reach for it.  In keeping with the casual look, I always throw on my trusted white sneakers, good for comfort and still on trend.  Basically, in December this is the outfit I would like to have on repeat between all the glitter, sequins and velvet that I absolutely adore.

Let It Snow, Let It Snow! & My Flare Jeans

On this particular day we  had planned to do our Christmas family photo because it was going to be mild and all of a sudden the snow just stared falling down.  It made our photos extra beautiful and I am thrilled with how they turned out.  Since the weather was so perfect and were were at a beautiful location already,  I decided that it was a perfect time to snap these photos for the blog.  This fall I decided to add these flare jeans to my small jean collection, and I couldn't be happier with them.  I've already gotten so much wear out of them and so many compliments on them, sorry they were a sale item that I randomly found, but I will link up a few other options below.  They are still high waisted (I never want that to go out of style), fitted through the hips, legs and then flare out.  I love the cute front pockets, just yesterday my tweens friends asked me why my jeans had back pockets in the front, LOL.  I am also super happy that I have my mom, who is a seamstress, was able to hem them for me.  At only 5'4", I often find it difficult to find pants that aren't too long, especially a flare cut like these.  As soon as you have to have them hemmed, you loose a lot of the flare affect, but I am really happy how these turned out. If you are hemming pants, I suggest picking out the type of footwear you are most likely going to wear the pants with and hem according to that.  I choose my low heeled booties because I love how they peak out the bottom, but the jeans also look great with my white sneakers as they have a good little platform on them. On this day, I dressed the jeans up slightly with a light knit sweater, that's structured and form fitting, has gold button detailing down the arm.  I love how this combination created a longer line for me, making me look slightly taller.  I also added a punch of color with my favorite red lipstick to stand out a little.   Over the past couple of months I've  paired the jeans up with oversized band tees and sneakers, oversized sweaters, and a blazer for casual Friday at work.

My US friends I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving with your families and friends.

Thanks for stopping by my little blog.  I really value and appreciate you all.

Ageless Style: Layers for Fall & Link-Up

Welcome to the Ageless Style monthly link-up!  We always gather on the third Thursday of the month and this month Joanne from Slices of Life prompted us to think about essential fall layers.  As you can see, fall has left and winter has arrived in Saskatchewan.  Currently my main layers are my winter coat, toque and mitts, LOL.  Although I have some really nice wool coats and a warm parka, today I am focusing on layers that I use indoors during work hours.  I love me a good duster cardigan or a blazer, but I decided to go a completely different direction this year when I was choosing to invest my $. I decided on a  vegan leather shacket.   Right off the hop I wasn't drawn to black this season, but as soon as I saw this shacket in cognac I was in love.  The leather jacket is super soft, and is lined with a soft, almost fleece like material, on the inside.  It's an oversized fit, which I always have to get used to, and I find I like to wear with a more fitted bottom, skinny/straight leg jeans or a fitted dress, to create shape and dimension in my look.  For reference I am wearing a small and honestly if they had an XS I would have been tempted to try that on, but sometimes you just have to try a different style on a few times so you get comfortable seeing a new silhouette on yourself.  Overall  I love my newest fall purchase and am happy that I stepped out of my comfort box and bought something new and different.

Since we are chatting about leather, I also want to draw your attention to the best backpack I've ever owned!  This is the prefect size for work and it comes back and forth with me 5 days a week.  It's in mint condition, a year after I purchased it, and it fits my laptop, journal, agenda, pens and a few other things.  I absolutely love that it's not too big and keeps me limited to carrying only the work essentials.  It's also awesome as a carry on when we travel.

Your turn, what are your essential  layering pieces for fall or winter?

What I Wore This Fall

Hi friends!  I had the BEST weekend ina long time.  It was a three day weekend and I just feel so good going into the week.  My heart is full, my life is feeling organized and I feel happy to welcome the holiday season.  Due to the three day weekend, I was able to get lots organized and accomplished around the house and visit with a number of friends, including celebrating out best mans 40th birthday, spending time with some friends, visiting with my parents and my grandma.  On top of  that, I also had time to work out and we put switched out our fall decorations and put up our Christmas tree.

So todays post is going to be short and sweet.  Although fall is still technically the season, here in SK we've gotten our first major dump of snow and cold weather, so needless to say, we have entered winter season.  Before I full embrace my parka, Sorel boots, starting my car to get it warmed up 15 minutes before I leave the house, and all the other things, I want to give you a quick look at what I wore this fall season, without all the layers to keep me warm and toasty.

Hope you all have an awesome week and see you back here on Thursday where I join the ladies of Ageless Style to show you our favorite fall layers!  Join us and link-up your favorite post as well.

Faux Leather Pants for the Office

Ladies faux leather everything is in this season.  Pants, skirts, blazers, jackets, dresses, etc.  It's everywhere and although I love me some black, because it goes with everything, I am really drawn to the chocolate brown shades this season.  I wasn't going to go out and buy the pants because I already have a pair of skinny faux leather pants, see here, but since my oldest purchased these, I thought I'd give them a try and now I  haven't given them exactly back. LOL!  Eventually she'll come looking for them but for now they are safely tucked into the drawer of my dresser.

She styles them with cute crop tops and AirForce Ones, and I styled them for a day of meetings out of the school and teaching in the afternoon. I love the relaxed fit, as opposed to the skinny/legging look, and also the high waist.  I will not be jumping on the low rise trend this time around, thank you.  Another favorite addition to my closet this past year has been relaxed fit button ups.  They are easy to wear all year long, casual or dressed up.  I now have a white one, see here, this off white almost subtle tie dye print, and a soft blue linen one.  To style this office look I stuck with low heeled pumps, a simple watch, initial style necklace and studs.  For a pop of color I went with Maybelline lipstick, and it's cool around here, so a trusted wool coat is a must.  This is likely the last time you'll see fall pictures here for a long time because we got our first snowfall and it's likely here to stay.  Bye bye fall, hello winter for the next 5 solid months, maybe 6.

Are you digging the faux leather trend?  What pieces have you added this fall to your wardrobe?
