Tulips and Dresses: Ahhh Feeling Spring-y

I am happy to announce that spring has sprung (fingers crossed I don't end up jinxing it and we get another showing of snow, hahaha).  No, I really think it's here to finally stay and I couldn't be happier.  A couple of weeks ago, right after we did get a bunch of snow, I bough some tulips to cheer me up.  A simple bunch of tulips just brightens the day and I needed it.  Shortly after, the sun was out and the temps were showing sings of spring so I decided to shoot this outfit that I am dying to wear for a daytime trip to a wine tasting or a brunch, you know when we things reopen, but until then I've decided that I feel better when I get all dressed up even if it's just to stay home.  It makes me feel happier, more productive and also I find I eat less when I am not wearing stretchy pants.

Did You Say $5 Jeans?!?

It actually feels good to be blogging right now.  Normal.  Something I used to do before COVID-19.  Taking pictures is of course a little interesting these days as we don't want to be going too far from home and certainly we want to avoid crowds.  We were able to get a few outfits shot last weekend before, are you ready for this.....WINTER came back. Yep, April 1st, we got a dump of snow, along with cold temperatures.  I guess mother nature also continues to be unexpected which is "normal" for us here in Saskatchewan.

I love this outfit and basically it's become my uniform.  Jeans, tee + cardigan.  I am still putting on some make-up and jewelry to feel human.   After a few full  P.J. days I knew I needed to start getting dressed and getting stuff done.  Anyone else feel sluggish all day long if they don't get dressed?

These jeans were a steal of a deal you guys.  Get this?!?  $4.97!!!!!  You read that right.  I was at ON because the only two pairs of jeans I own both busted in a week span, one the zipper went on and the other ones suddenly got a whole in the butt.  I was desperate for a pair and generally I always find something at ON.  I headed there, before all the stores closed, and found these.  I have been wanting a pair of high-waisted, button fly jeans forever.  I saw my blogger friend Jill of Doused in Pink wearing them months ago and I loved them on her.  She has great casual style so make sure to check her out.  And there they were!  Anyway, I love the fit, feel, the high -waist, and the cute raw hem detail, which is perfect for spring.  I also love that I can wear them to work eventually on casual Fridays, there are no holes or any major distress on them. Win!  I also decided to take this basic tee, which is long and loose, and tie it at the front.  I love how the look came together!

Another steal of a deal was this cute little Pixie Mood backpack.  I needed a new one but wasn't interested in dropping a bunch of money.  I went on a local buy and sell and found it for half-price brand new!  Do you buy things on buy & sells?

70's Vibe for the Office

  

I was all smiles before the harsh winter hit.  Thankfully I was able to shoot these photos in mild temperatures, -15C or 5F, and because the last couple of weeks have been sooooooooo cold.  I will not be shooting anything outdoors if the weather doesn't let up.  Anyway back to the outfit.  I love this outfit so much.   The rich colors.  The textures. It's cozy, chic and comfortable all at the same time.  Also I feel fantastic wearing this and that's reason enough to have it on repeat!  This whole outfit was inspired by that 70s vibe.  I was desperate to find a cozy sweater in mustard yellow at the onset of winter and though my first choice was sold out, I was pleasantly surprised to find this one in an XS while at Old Navy.  The rest of the outfit just came together without much thought. I love the outfit is made up of,  A) inexpensive pieces, and  B) pieces that are completely versatile and can be paired up in various ways.

Fall Teacher Style on a Budget

For a teacher starting a new school year is much like New Years is to everyone else in the world.  It's a fresh start!  A clean slate.  The year ahead is full of promise.  We set goals for ourselves both professionally and personally.  It's also a time when we feel extremely broke :) (again much like after Christmas and New Years).  Many of us get paid over 10 months and even though we save and plan to cover our expenses, school start-up is always a little hard and the end of September and our first paycheck can't come soon enough.  

I don't always shop at Old Navy but I do find that they often have trendy items that have a great price point.  I did a little "window shopping" and then real shopping, in  ON the other evening, kid free, and found myself pairing work appropriate outfits all over the place.  I purchased everything for $200 and honestly can remix all the times multiple times, making these picks a staple in my world.  Let's see what I placed in my cart.

#1 Plaid Pants

Plaid is everywhere this year, especially pants and blazers.  A plaid blazer, such as this one, is on my wish list but it's $$$ and needs to wait until payday.  When I saw these plaid pants I knew that I could recreate so many different looks with the tops I already had in my closet (light pink, black turtleneck, white blazer, etc).  These pants are a keeper for me. Let's look at the three ways I styled them.

First, I styled them with the items in my closet.  Blush pink and gray always go so well togther and I love how this outfit turned out.  Perfect now as we are transitioning from summer to fall, or in spring.

This knit top is super comfy from ON and pairs really well with the pants but I feel that I just wouldn't get enough wear out of it at this time of the year so it's going back.   NOTE:  This top would also go really well with the burgundy, corduroy skirt.

Unexpected pairing!!!!  Bold, rich, burgundy floral with plaid for the win!  I absolutely love this outfit and the blazer is the perfect laying top for chillier days and for a more polish office look. 

#2 Swing Dress

Okay, a girl can never had too many of these dresses and they are often on sale for like $20!!!  They currently have them in forest green, charcoal, burgundy & yellow.  I really, really, really wanted to love the yellow dress but I just don't on me.  I think it's just too much yellow in one item.  I absolutely adore the burgundy but as my husband pointed out, I seem to have too much of that color in my wardrobe.  I think I'll keep the burgundy one regardless and trade the yellow in for a green one.  These dresses are perfect with bare legs and  flats now, or pair them up with  tights and booties later, or with leggings and boots!  So many ways to wear a swing dress.

#3 Corduroy Skirt & The Cardigan that you NEED!

A long, duster cardigan is a must have and honestly, can you really have too many?  They wear out and pill over time but at this price, you really can't go wrong.  This cardigan is super soft, lightweight but will keep you warm as the weather changes and layers are needed throughout the day.  I picked it up in this camel brown color because it's nuteral,plus it's all over the place this fall season.  Wear it with a skirt, jeans, dress pants, dress, etc.  

The corduroy skirt is much like the suede skirt was a couple of seasons ago, a must have.  What is the best part of this skirt, well it's the BUTTONS.  Big, chunky buttons are very popular this season and add fun detailing to blazers, skirts, sweaters, etc.  I also love that this skirt didn't seem to collect static and stick between my legs when I walked.  I can also see it being worn with a black turtleneck, tights and black booties for the winter.

Busy Mama Outfit Combo: Gray, Burgundy & Leopard

Yikes.  It's been BUSY!  I love this time of year but I feel like I am just moving from one event/task to another.  Busy at work with leading and learning from first notch professional development, to doing kids birthday parties, hosting friends, shopping for the Christmas, dealing with daily mishaps, and doing a ton of gluten free baking for our first GF Christmas.  I love it all but it's been difficult to care about getting dresses so as a result I tend to resort to basic outfit combos that still look polished for the daily events and the office.   My go to combo's are always basic bottoms, fun/colorful top, one accessory that makes a statement and heels, because I love heels. 
This outfit was inspired by Allison from GYPO post on IG.  I loved it but flipped the look and rocked my favorite pair of  Lord & Taylor pants (which come in tons of colors for only $39) and my burgundy bell sleeved top that I purchased last year from ON (similar here and here).  I love adding a little bling with  my newish statement necklace (I wear it ALL the time, which is good because it was an investment piece) and who doesn't love a little leopard booties  for fun.  

Just for fun the very next day I wore the exact same color formula to work but flipped and it worked perfectly and no one noticed that it was extremely similar to the previous days outfit.

Fashion Friday: Outdoor Summer Concert Outfit

The Jazz festival is a week long festival filled with great live music all over our town.  There is a free stage and several paid venues you can attend.  I love this event but unfortunately it always comes the last week of school and you usually I am so drained, and unorganized, that we don't get to experience it then way I wish we could.   Well this year it finally happened!!!!  Logan and I, along with friends hit up the outdoor concert venue to enjoy Walk Off The Earth. 

 

They were incredible live.  Sarah Blackwood was incredibly pregnant but that didn't slow her down.  Seriously, she killed it out on that stage and looked incredible doing it (FYI, I did not resemble her in any way, shape or form, while pregnant). 

This little dress from Old Navy was the perfect outfit to wear.   Pretty, flowy, boho like.  I just picked it up the evening before and it's sure to be a favorite all summer long at the beach and for patio drinks.  I see myself wearing my skinny yellow belt with it the next time, but for this evening I opted out for my bold, orange, tassel earrings.   Once the evening air cooled I through on my  bomber jacket to keep warm.  The Kate Spade wallet, along with the purse, was my gift to me when we were in Florida and I love it!  It's sold out on their website but I found one on eBay.
