Ageless Style: White Tops, Linen Shorts and a Little Trip to the Colosseum

Hello everyone!  It's been just over a month since my last post and a lot has happened.  End of school year, celebrated my 40th birthday, my husband and I went to Italy, lost our luggage, came back, continued without luggage, reunited with our children, packed up for the lake, moved out to the lake, hosted 6 tween/teens, boated, soaked up the sunshine, and now we are here.  I am  glad to be back and promise to be back on my Monday blogging schedule and of course with the ladies of Ageless Style every third Thursday of the month.  Please follow along and link up at the end of this post.

This months theme is summer white!  Today I am showing you an outfit I purchased in Rome at a store called OVS, reminds me a bit of H & M or Mark & Spencer when I was in London.  My luggage was lost and by the 2nd day I knew I better find a top and bottom, and frankly some panties, because it didn't look like I was going to be getting it anytime soon.  If you followed along, I didn't get it until a week after we returned home.  Anyway, I love this light weight knit white top and the linen paper bag waist shorts.  They were the perfect fit together and they are perfect for creating the Coastal Grandma Style everyone is talking about.  Rome is HOT and we walked everywhere, so this little ensemble was the perfect way to stay stylish and cool, plus it's super breathable so it didn't stink up, making it possible for me to wear it from a long day of sight seeing and exploring the Colosseum to an evening out exploring the neighborhood of Trastevere and garbing some ice cream,  all I had to do is switch out my cute Lulu Lemon belt bag for my Kate Spade crossbody purse.  Day to night look without fuss.

Okay, I have a great appreciation for architects and engineers of our day BUT seriously the Colosseum is AMAZING and it's 1, 952 years old!!!!!!  Let that sink in.  I mean this structure was commissioned to be built by Emperor Vespasian  between 70 -80 AD.  It's the biggest amphitheater to date to be built.  Historically it was used for gladiator combats and wild animal fighting and could house up to 50, 000 spectators.  Although over the years much of this has had to be restored and upkept it is an incredible structure that makes you feel very tiny in it's presence.  There is so many int3ercate layers, details from the gladiator area, to the cages for the wild animals, to the actual floor where the fighting was to occur and seating arrangements that would allow everyone to see.  We choose to purchase an audio tour that we listened to before entering the Colosseum and it made us appreciate it's structure so much more, although it made me sick to think of all the prisoners and predominantly Jewish slaves that worked to build it over a decade and how difficult of a task that would have been.  So many historical sights that we admire have a dark history.

More from Italy coming your way in upcoming posts.  Until then please visit the other ladies of Ageless Style and link up below.  Join us on Aug. 18th for Fashion on  a Budget and Sept. 15th for Back to School Outfits.

    1. I know, I just had to take a break. I didn't even know it until it started and I just had no desire to sit down at my computer, until I finally did. You would love Rome! So much interesting history and so much to see and be in awe of. Out of the three places we visited that was hands down our favorite. I'll hop over to your blog to see how you guys are doing.

  5. I will have to visit the coloseum if we ever go back to Rome: last time was 14 years ago and we did not tour it but took pictures from the outside! Love your little outfit you picked up there and so glad you finally got your suitcase back!

    1. Thank you so much! There is just so much to see and explore in Rome. We got our little nephews gladiator dress up/fighting outfits and then we told them through story abut the colosseum. They through it was pretty cool, kind of made me think of your kids.

  6. You definitely get the prize for the best backdrops for your photos Bo!! And what an adventure with losing your luggage and everything. But you'll have such great memories with the items you had to buy in Rome....and they are perfect for wearing in the summer anywhere.

    1. Awe, thanks. It was such a wonderful adventure! Buying a few pieces that I really do love is a blessing as that pair of shorts and top will pair up nicely with many things and have been heavy in rotation in the past month (probably because most of my other clothes were in the suitcase, LOL).

    1. I am sure you would have done just fine because what other choice do you really have. Honestly it wasn't the best and I was so disappointed, especially since I was celebrating my 40th birthday, but Rome was incredible so little time to waste on being sad.

  9. Welcome home and welcome back. You handled losing your luggage better than any of the rest of us would, I'm afraid. My sister loses hers everywhere she goes so has learned to go with the flow, too. Glad your luggage finally made it back to you, even if it was after you got home.

Italy is on my list of places to visit. But want to do England, Scotland and Ireland first. Thank you for sharing a little info on the colosseum. Which I had to learn to spell just then!! What an amazing feat of construction surely completed with blood, sweat and tears. Your outfit was perfect for the heat. I hear all of Europe is exceptionally hot this summer. Love the little Lululemon cross body, too. Hope you were able to get a few more nice pieces with an allowance from the airline.

    1. Isn't it so tricky to spell? I basically have to google everything.. LOL! I am so thankful that we were smart enough to pack a couple of days worth of outfits with us and thankfully I had a tube of mascara and my foundation with me. LOL.

  11. What a cute neutral outfit for summer! I really like it, you'd never know you only bought it after your luggage went missing - very stylish. And I'm glad you eventually got your things back! :)

Hope you are having a good week :)

  12. You look beautiful in this light colored outfit! I am glad you finally got your luggage back. We saw the Colosseum and were amazed by the vast size, age and beauty too. Rome was my favorite city we visited in Italy!

  13. I have a pair of linen pants I plan to bring to Italy! They are very light weight so that'll be nice when we got into the Vatican.
