An Unlikely Pair: Animal Print and Floral

Whew!  What a busy week it has been.  We've been busy with family at the cabin and all the cousins and all the heat!  No complaints and although we are so happy, we are all also feeling a little tuckered out from all the fun.  I am looking forward to having a few days with just our little family and reconnecting with them.  

Speaking of reconnecting.  Mr. and I have been enjoying our own date nights at home through COVID.  We still have yet to go out on a patio or for dinner at a restaurant and honestly have no plans to do so anytime soon.  We've found a new groove, involving getting all dressed up, strolling the streets of our city, grabbing an ice cream cone and enjoying our own patio.  Just a couple of weeks ago, I went home from the lake and we had a mini-date night and took these photos.  It was perfect and CHEAP!  

What are you doing for date nights these days?  

I absolutely love this little leopard dress and have featured it many times on the blog, see here and here.  Abby from Belong Lifestyle paired their floral blazer with a leopard top a while back and as soon as I saw it, I was inspired to try the combination as well.  Unfortunately they don't have the cute blazer anymore in stock but they have an awesome leopard print slip dress that I've linked up below.  My dress is tucks into high-waisted jeans well, so I often wear it as a top in the fall/winter months.  I love when clothes can serve many purposes.  Side note, my cute little pup chewed my favorite pumps.  I need a comfortable, low heel , pair to replace them with.  What are your suggestions for a replacement?

Pattern Mixing: Polka Dots & Gingham

I love summer fashion.  I also love the easy lifestyle that comes with summer life.  Usually life in the city, during the school year is busy, busy, busy.  Most of you can agree with that I am sure.  A full-time, plus, working teacher/mom, the school year is busy.  I struggle to even get once a week content put together for the blog if I am being honest.  With warmer nights, longer days of summer, also comes a much-needed break and time for restoration.  I NEED this break from my teaching job.  Honestly, I couldn’t keep going.  I am so worn out by the end of June that I can hardly stand any talking or noise anymore.  I am tired of being over stimulated, working 10 + hours a day, and then coming home to another f/t time job.  I love the slow pace that summer brings.  I love it even more at the lake.  The day I wore this outfit my hubby and I went to the farmers market, craft show, took photos, read on our deck and still had a great day with the kids.  Now that’s a day of relaxation.
 

Mostly at the lake my uniform includes nothing more than foundation at the beginning of the day, a messy ponytail, and either a bathing suit or shorts/tee combo.   There are a few days that I like to get a little dressed up and feel like my trendy self.  😊  I adore these classic gingham shorts that I picked up last year, see HERE two other ways to style them.  When I saw my new polka dotted tee in the closet I just had the idea that the polka dots and gingham would be an ideal combination.  I LOVE how this outfit came together.  It’s adorable and perfect for a farmer’s market stroll, an espresso in a Parisian café, or a lunch date.  Don’t you agree?  I am also still using my straw purse from my summer, but I’ve added these straw, statement earrings.  LOVE.  They make a statement all on their own and have been on repeat with everything, jeans and a tee, summer dresses, rompers, etc.  They are perfect with everything and on sale for like $15 bucks.  You just can’t say NO.

High-Waisted Shorts Two Ways

Hello Cutie Shorts! 

Seriously how awesome are high-waisted shorts?!?  Currently I am into everything high-waisted, pants, bikini bottoms, skirts, you name it I love it.  Is it just the trend or is it the fact that I am getting older? Yep 36 as of a couple of weeks ago, and things just don’t stay hidden like they used to.  Either way, I am in love with these babies.  I snagged them up at Winners for 24.99 and I knew they would go from office, to drinks, to lunch, to shorts on the beach without a beat skipped.  Today I am showing you how I wore them while visiting in Victoria, BC a couple of weeks ago.  If you haven’t been to Fisherman’s  Wharf you are absolutely missing out.  It’s got the cutest little houses on the water, trinket shops, and the best fish and chips around (and this is coming from a girl who doesn’t even like fish & chips).  You can easily walk it from downtown Victoria, in 25-30 minutes, and along the way you get to explore the beautiful walk along the ocean, as well as take in some Victorian sight along the way. 

 

I also wanted to show you how I would dress this outfit up for a lunch date or even a summer evening dinner by adding a chunky necklace by H & B, some heels and a sleek/sexy bodysuit.  Confession Time!  My bodysuit gives me a wedgie.  It’s super annoying.  My solution has been to tuck it in but not button the bottom up.  It still gives me that sleek look I love, without being uncomfortable or picking my butt.  LOL!
