Taking Winter on in Plaid Pants

Here in Saskatchewan we are now really in the winter phase of the year.  Our winters are long, lasting usually into April and sometimes even May.  Although I love all the sweaters and cozy feels that come with late fall/early winter, it wears off rather quickly but yet the weather holds on to us.  There is much mental health that declines with the short days and numbing cold that prevents many from getting outdoors.  Each year I am reminded to be thankful for the warmth of my home, the stability of my job, the love of my family and the ability to buy all the winter things that get and keep us outdoors in the winter months.

These pants are SO warm and perfect for the season.  They were a bit of an investment when I purchased them at the beginning of winter but are currently on sale, linked up below.  They are made up of 15 % wool and the heavy material keeps the legs nice and warm on a mild winter day.  I love the wide leg and this year I am trying to branch out from my regular fitted outfits, see the oversized blazer look here.  At first I wasn't sure that I could pull these off but when your teen gushes over the pants at the store and asks if she can borrow them, well that's a mom win!  I often bring items home that I am unsure of and style them with a bunch of different items from my closet to make sure that I will get enough wear out of them.  I am very careful and selective what I bring into my closet, as I am really trying to keep my options limited for each season.  Usually I do spring/summer and fall/winter rotation and at the beginning and end of each, I look through to donate or consign any items that haven't been worn.  I don't want too many choices that I never reach for and I don't like the idea of putting so much stuff into the landfill, although I am NOT AT ALL PEREFECT when it comes to this!  The cropped sweater I paired up the pants for this outfit is several years old, I'll link up similar options below, but I love all the embroidery details on it and I'll probably wear it until it has holes in it.  I love the rich colors used in the embroidery detail and how they pop against the black background.  I paired it up with the simple gold chain that was a gift for Christmas and is currently in heavy rotation. It's a statement on it own but looks great layered with a long necklace as well.

Happy Friday!!!!!  What's on the agenda?

  1. You are so smart to keep a limited supply in your rotation. I've been weeding through my closet like crazy, and like you said, why keep all the extra when we keep reaching for the same things. I'm concentration on new ways to style all my old favorites! Happy weekend friend!

    1. Exactly. Mostly too many options just stresses me out. I am really thinking about doing that declutter challenge you are doing. Late to the party, but just to make a conscious effort to tackle some of those spaces.

    1. Oh my gosh, that's the nicest complement. Honestly, sometimes things that we are not used to seeing ourselves in just need to be worn around for a few hours so that we lean into it.

  4. Beautiful. I am thinking you were born in eastern Europe somewhere...I can't remember where. Maybe a country that once belong to the former USSR? But this gorgeous outfit reminds me of something from one of the Slavic countries. The details in that sweater are sumptuous. Love it paired with those cozy warm trousers. You look smashing. And I love the different angles of your photos!!

    1. Hello beautiful lady. I was born in a Slavic country, Bosnia & Herzegovina. Thanks so much! My husband takes all of my photos for me and I've been working to try to be a little more creative with some of the photos but sometimes I just run out of ideas, LOL.

  5. The pants are really fun and I love that they are wide legged. I am going to try to deviate from all of my skinny jeans but we shall see. I did the same thing the other day when I picked up a dress from Target. I tried 4 different jackets that looked cute with it and I knew I had half a dozen shoes that would look cute with it too. I still will shop this year but hopefully a lot less than last year!

    1. I know it's so hard to deviate from what works and also what we are used to seeing ourselves in. I had to wear these pants around the house a few times and look in the mirror just to get used it, but then I loved them!

  6. What a great find! Plaid pants are a wardrobe staple and even more so, if they can work well through the winter season. I love how you styled it with your embroidered sweater. It's a match made in clothing heaven! I also agree with you and I try to be picky with clothes that I buy. I do the happy dance when I find something that really works for more than one occasion. I hope your week is off to a great start and happy Monday!

    1. 100%! I feel this year more than ever before I've been very selective on the pieces that I am spending money on and bringing into my closet. I've purchased a few more pricey pieces but I also think they give me a different vibe and I have enough classic pieces that I really don't need to be adding more. Hope home schooling is going alright for you and the little man. Think about you guys a lot.

  10. Bo, what an awesome outfit! I love these pants and the top you chose to go with them is perfection! I hear you on the long winters. I have to wear heavy winter layers well into May and sometimes June where I live. Snow in June is not at all uncommon here. Thanks for sharing this cool outfit and linking with me!

    1. You 100% understand me. Where do you live again? I don't mind the snow, and actually enjoy playing in it but I do wish we had more defined and evenly spaced seasons.

  11. These are such fun pants and they are a great pairing with the embroidered top! :) You look so cosy and stylish!

I usually try edit down my wardrobe at the ends of seasons too but with last year being such a strange year and going out less I didn't get a chance to really evaluate things as there were lots of things I didn't wear as I just wore loungewear or pyjamas while staying at home, haha!

Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup! Hope that you had a great weekend :) We managed to spend a lot of time outdoors which was fun :)

    1. I totally hear you on that. I didn't buy as much because it just didn't seem sensible to be honest. I did find new ways to spend money, hahaha, I bought a lot more home decore.
