Coffee Mugs, Floppy Hats and Last Days of Summer

This is going to be a short post.  Last week was HARD. The hardest of my whole career.  Our school community lost a 9 year old child.  We grieved for the loss of a student, for her family, and for our community.  We will continue to grieve, but one thing I know for certain is that we will wrap our hearts and arms around the family. We will love and support them.  We will also love and support each other.

So with that, this weekend, coffee, reading, family time, and sleep were on the agenda.  Soaking up the last days of summer and the sunshine was welcomed and although my heart continues to be heavy, I know the best I can do is continue to show up.

This outfit is perfect as we begin the day with a chill in the air and then shed layers to welcome the last few warm days.  I layered a simple black and white outfit with an old crochet, duster cardigan, and added some fall vibes with the navy and burgundy loafers and my floppy hat.  They say we are going to have a proper fall this year, so I am really hoping to wear more outfits like this with cardigans as light weight layers and instead of jumping right into wool coats and mitts.

What are your favorite summer to fall transition pieces?

  1. I like your crochet cardigan :) So sorry to hear about the loss of a child at your school though, so young. no wonder last week was tough for you.

Hope you had a great weekend to help you recover :) We made the most of the warm spring days and went to a bunch of parties!

  2. I am so sorry for the loss of that child!
That first picture is pretty amazing! I am planning to pick up a black hat later this fall. I wore my fall hats much more than my summer hat this past year.

    1. Thank you for the you kind words.

I struggle with hats. I love them but our weather tends to be very windy around here so they often want to blow away and I really just want it to stay put. LOL.

    1. Thank you for your kind words, they are much appreciated.

It's warm here too but honestly I am okay with that. We tend to have really short fall/spring and then bam winter sets in for months, so holding off it okay with me. LOL.

  6. Oh, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of this child. I remember being in school in 7th grade and my teacher lost her youngest child in 4th grade at the same school. It was so heart breaking! I remember her coming back from her leave with a necklace on and all pulled together for us. Life can be so uncertain and hard! You look so adorable in that floppy hat with your coffee!

    1. Oh my goodness. There is just nothing more unnatural than a mother losing her child, right? I can't imagine how that feels (thankfully). Makes you hold on to your kiddos just a little bit tighter.

I hope you are having a great week Carrie.

  7. I am so sorry to hear about this. A loss of a child is just so heartbreaking. Sending the family lots of prayers. On a different note, I love your floppy hat! I wish I can wear hats like this but to be honest, having something on my hair kind of frustrates me. I also adore your cardigan. It's perfect for the cooler mornings and for the upcoming season. I guess denim jacket, cardigan or a hoodie are some of my transitional staples. I hope your week is off to a great start and happy Tuesday!

    1. Thank you for your thought and kind words.

I hear you about hats. Although I don't mind having anything on my head, we have a lot of windy, windy weather here and I get annoyed that it flies off of my head. Hahahaha. Just picture me chasing it the hat like a fly away balloon. LOl.

  8. My darling friend, I am so sorry to read about the reason for your tough week at school. My goodness, prayers for the child's family and your entire school community. I worked at an elementary school where the older siblings of 2 students committed a murder together. And then turned on each other when they were caught by the law. The students at my school were in the same grade. The same class. It was horrible to watch those younger kids struggle with the acts of their older brothers. God bless our babies.

That floppy hat is so much fun. Would be perfect for a wine fest or pumpkin patch visit. You wear it so well, with such confidence.
