Ageless Style: Fashion Character Icons
Who are your fashion character icons? Today on Ageless Style we are finding inspiration in our favorite TV characters. Over the years, I've had many, but it's no surprise that these three different characters, Cher from Clueless, Elle from Legally Blond, and Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl, all inspired me as I was growing up and still have impact now. I admire each of them for their confidence, attitude, their sense of self and style. When I saw this little tweed pink jacket I instantly had a feeling of Blair Waldorf's feminine prep style. As I played around different outfit combination, each character came to life and into my memory in their own way. Lets take a peek how I style it for todays post.
#1 Girly in Pink (Blair)
I feel like I could stroll the streets of Manhattan in the spring in this little outfit. It's cute, flirty and the jacket adds the touch of polish to finish it off. I might just need to add a headband.
#2 Slay the Day (Elle Office Style)
Don't let heels slow you down. We can look feminine and still slay the day in the office. I adore how simple this outfit formula is but the jacket just adds some sophistication, especially the gold buttons.
#3 Preppy at School (Cher)
Although I have no desire to ever, ever go back to high school, I do love feeling young and preppy. Bringing back so many styles from the late 90s and early 2000, has been like going back in time, but thankfully with way more confidence and style.
What's your favorite look? Who are some of your character fashion icons?

My Top 5 Reads in 2023: Spring Edition
I love to read and really try to make it a priority when setting my goals for the year. I don't read a ton like many people but I try to build 20 minutes a day to read and relax. I love coming home and reading right after work to unwind and on the weekends I like to sit on the couch for longer periods of time with a cup of coffee and my book. Way back in the day I used to read before going to bed but honestly it's not something that works for me anymore. I am just way too tired and it feels forced, and that's not a feeling I want to prioritize. My goal is always to read one book a month, for a total of 12 a year. Last year I began finding audiobooks that I could focus on and enjoy while getting ready for work or cooking on the weekends. So my goal for this year is a total of 20 books, 12 which I want to actually read. So far I have 11 completed and I am going to give you my top five for summer 2023 in no particular order. You can find more reviews of the books I read on Gooodreads.

Casual Mom Spring Style
I am back friends. Sorry, I stepped away without any sort of warning. Nothing is wrong but it just became impossible for me to do it all. I have news!!!!! I am moving schools next year. I will be taking a step forward in my learning journey as a leader by going to a much bigger school, four times the size of my current school, as a vice-principal but at 100% V.P. time. It's a huge learning opportunity for me and although I am nervous, I am also extremely excited for this next challenge! That being said, it's just been super busy with work commitments, photoshoots starting up again, starting training for a half marathon,, thinking about packing up my classroom, girls spring activities, and family/friend gatherings. All good things but I just felt like I couldn't juggle anything well anymore, so something had to take a backseat. I already know come September I will be taking a month off all social media things, in order to get my head around a new job, new roles and responsibilities, and learning about my staff and students. But I am here now and ready to finish off the school year with smiles and go into summer with my family.
So, since life has been BUSY, my outfits have been casual and uncomplicated. Jeans, basic tees/tanks, light layering pieces and alternating between sandals and sneakers. Basically you can find me wearing this version of outfit over and over again. I love a classic stripped tee/tank, over casual jeans, and an oversized bomber jacket, cardigan or my favorite linen button down (aka workhorse shirt). See how I am still rocking the skinny jeans. Yep, didn't give them up, because when you put a larger layer over top, like this button down, skinny jeans, help keep shape and definition to your body. So although I have diversified my jean collection with some wide leg, relaxed fits, I am not giving up the skinny jeans anytime soon. this outfit functions so well for time at the ball diamond (which I've been at a lot), basic errands, photoshoots, and to chill back with a cup of coffee which I make sure to include in my weekends as time for me.

Classic Green for Spring
Things are turning up green, don't you agree? Spring is well underway and I love me some color. Last year I infused my wardrobe with a pink power suit and this year I knew I wanted to add something classic green to my wardrobe. While at a local spring fashion show with the ladies, I saw this crochet sweater and immediately knew that was coming home with me! Cute, vibrant, unique, and from a local boutique, what's not to love? I went into the store and picked it up and I've been wearing it ever since. Now, it is both a crop top and crocheted so I knew I was going to have to also be on a look out for a layering piece and I thought I'd try to find myself a bodysuit that I didn't find uncomfortable. I tried a few different places and finally landed on a white one from Dynamite. It's perfect and so comfortable. It has great stretch, multiple snap setting depending on your torso, and the price point was spot on. For reference I choose to get a medium rather than a small and I feel that was the right choice for me.
I've worn this top several times over the past month including two nights ago when we had a little double date with some friends at a local pub called Prairie Sun Brewery. It was so nice to catch up with friends, laugh, chat and kick back with a flight of locally made beers (toffee was my favorite). This outfit was perfect for a casual night out, paired with my favorite gold accessories and my new bomber jacket that's been heavily on repeat this spring, was the prefect layering piece. Although the trench coat is trending, I find the bomber is absolutely perfect for more casual settings and it pairs well with jeans.
