Day to Night in Leather Pants

Day Look

I love an outfit that can be transitioned from day to night without fuss.  Check out this simple combination, knitted tank, leather pants, smart fitted blazer, simple basic jewelry and the only thing that's swapping out are the shoes.  I am actually wearing this exact outfit for work today, with the sneakers, I am easily able to run around with kids, up and down the stairs of our four level school, and look stylish. Sidebar,  a good pair of white sneakers has been in heavy rotation for me these past few years.  I love the AirForce ones but if you don't want to drop a ton of money, grab a pair at half the cost when you go to a place like Marshalls or Winners, that's where I've gotten my last two pairs. Also, these leather pants have been worn so many times over the past several years and I need/want to buy a new pair.  I am seriously considering spending a little extra an getting a pair of Spanx.  Do you have them?  Would you recommend?

The work week is done and I am ready for the weekend.  Unfortunately today is Monday but  I am looking at a short week over here this week so that's exciting. too.

Night Look

Swap out the white sneakers for some fancy heels like these ones I purchased in Italy and grab a clutch, and  you are ready for dinner or drinks out on the town.  I love these new sandals.  It's been a long time that I've purchased a pair of shoes that weren't "sensible" heels and I am soooooooo happy I did.  Every time I put them on I feel like a mullion bucks.  I wore this out for our anniversary dinner and the BackStreet Boys concert at the beginning of the month.  Perfect outfit to peel off the blazer and dance the night away! And no, my feet never got tired!

Happy 19th Anniversary to the best husband in the world.  Thanks for always being my photographer, even in the rain.  LOL!

Have a wonderful work week friends.  Remember to carve out a little time for yourself each day and do something that you love.  For me, that's a quite moment to have my coffee either in the morning or right after work and before I put supper on the table.

Ageless Style: Back to School Outfits & Link Up

Hello friends.  Welcome to the Ageless Style link-up party!  This month the theme was chosen by me and it's all about back to school.  As an educator back to school time is as important, if not more, then new years.  It always feels like a fresh start, a new beginning, and new adventures are on the horizon.  I am going into my 16th year of teaching, and 4th being a vice principal, and I love it just as much as I did at the beginning.  I was extra excited to go back to school knowing that I would be seeing peoples smiling faces as we are not mandated to mask anymore.  We all feel much more comfortable and confident, and more connected.  Don't get me wrong, I was all about doing what needed to be done to keep ourselves and each other safe, but it's lovely to begin the year off with hope and excitement of connecting in a good way with kids and their families.  I am also thankful for the routine.  I love summer but even with all the time in the world, I just can't keep up inn the same way I can when I have a tight routine without a lot of down time.  I am much more productive with everything, managing the house, chores, blogging, photography, reading, working out, LOL.

As for my outfits, I've been wearing ALL the summer clothes because we've had an unseasonably warm/hot September thus far, breaking records a few times.  It's dresses, skirt, shorts, sleeveless tops and all those lovely light layers before fall and winter arrive. Also, gone are the flip flops and high heels, and they been traded in for comfy strappy sandals and/or sneakers.  If you missed my post on Monday, it's all about taking your favorite maxi dress and styling it for fall, see here.

How does back to school impact your day to day life?

Now be sure to check out the rest of the ladies and how back to school is for them and don't forget to link up your favorite post so we can check that out!

One Dress Summer to Fall

Summer 2022 version..  I loved this dress the minute I put it on way back in February, when we were fully submerged in winter.  I bought it immediately knowing I wanted to wear it for my 40th birthday in Italy but unfortunately the dress never made it due to our luggage being lost (not to worry I did get a replacement dress that I love just as much).  I love the neckline and fitted bodice, the fluttery shoulder straps, the romantic floral pattern, and it has pockets!  The fabric is also ultra soft and comforting.  It was the perfect dress to wear to backyard birthday parties, BBQs or lunches.  Since I spent most of my time at the lake, on the boat and beach, it didn't get nearly as much wear as I had hoped so this fall season I am going to utilize it a bit more.

Fall 2022 version. Since maxi dresses are having a moment this fall, I decided to trade my wedges for booties, and throw on another IT fall 2022 staple, a leather jacket. The leather jacket is a new to me purchase that I scored for $20 online from our local buy and sell FB group and it's in mint condition.  Leather jackets, blazers, pants, skirts are all having a moment this fall season but to be honest a leather jacket has been in style for a very long time so investing in one is definitely worth it.  I opted for sizing up to a medium so that I can layer heavier knits underneath as the weather changes.

What's your go to summer to fall 2022 transition look?   I am not ready to put my summer wardrobe away just yet!

Summer Uniform: The Bikini

Summer is flying by and I am trying to soak up as much sun and family fun at the lake as possible.  Honestly my summer outfits are mostly a bathing suit or joggers and a crew neck.  I recently turned 40 and still choose a bikini because it's what I am most comfortable in.  This is not to be confused with CONFIDENCE, because I don't always feel confident in them but as I've gotten older that has also gotten better; see the links below for posts on my journey with body image.  Not all bikinis work for me and I will tell you that the best bathing suits for me in the last decade have come from La Vie En Rose.  They have so many styles to choose from, colors, patterns , mix and match options that I truly have been able to find something for each season of my life that I feel pretty good in.  My favorite thing about their bathing suits are the bottoms are made from soft fabric, so they don't dig into my sides and squeeze everything out.  I also like that I can find full coverage for both bottoms and tops, which makes me feel comfortable and lets me move around freely.  I think there is something for just about everyone, from my mom, to me, and even my teen purchased a bathing suit from them this year.  This year I purchased two to update my selection, the bold pink one and the one shoulder yellow and white one.  I love them equally and have been wearing them non-stop! See my previous bathing suit purchases from this company, as well as my journey with body image, here and here.

I'll be here for the next two weeks trying to fill my bucket with all the things I love, family, friends, wakeboarding, boating, kayaking, reading, and sitting by the fire.

Tell me about your summer so far?

Italy Trip: Rome Part 1

Vatican City

Oh, Rome might be my favorite city, previously the title was held by London.  It's truly a toss up between the two, but really why choose when you are lucky to have had the opportunity to explore both.

I've decided to break up my Italy trip recaps into three posts,  two Rome posts because Rome wasn't built in a day and frankly you need a lot more than a day to explore it, Lake Como and Milan.

ACCOMODATIONS:

When we arrived in Rome, late afternoon on June 28th, we had pre-arranged with our Airbnb host to have a cab meet us there.  BEST decision ever.  Here is the thing, after you've been flying for 18+ hours, you are tired, in a new country and haling a taxi when you aren't sure how things work just yet is just a headache you don't need.  Our host was amazing and the taxi knew exactly where to drop us off, which was right in the heart of Rome.  We were met by out wonderful host who I just can't say enough amazing things about!!!!  The place was a little one bedroom apartment. It was cozy, nicely decorated, clean, and had the cutest tiled bathroom.  We were literally steps away from the Pantheon and a number of great places to eat, grab coffee, gelato or little necessities to have in the cupboards for snacking or breakfast in the morning.  The host provided us with a number or suggestions for dining and gelato, and they were all fantastic.  Check out place out here, and the pictures below are curtest of the Airbnb site.

That first evening we just went strolling through the neighborhood and found our way around using the app HERE WeGo.  This app doesn't require data if you download the map ahead of time.  It worked really well for us and we would highly recommend it.  We ventured around and found a set of really steep steps which we thought were the Spanish Steps, but we realized the next day they were not.  It was still a climb up to the top and we enjoyed exploring and finding our way around.  We also enjoyed strolling through Piazza Navona, sitting down to eat homemade pasta at Osteria Da Fortunata. It was to die for and neither of us are die-hard pasta fans.

Not the Spanish steps.

Day 1 Vatican City, Spanish Steps & Borgehous Garden
This was our busiest day and we packed a TON into it.  Due to jet leg we were up early and headed to Vatican City on foot, which was about 25 minute walk.

ST. PETER'S BASILICA
We arrived at 8:30 a.m.  in front of St. Peters Basilica and beat the rush.  We basically we walked right in. I had read that climbing the dome was incredible, so we opted to head there first and explore the inside later.  THIS WAS THE HIGHLIGHT of our whole trip.  We paid to take the elevator up with first 250 steps and then climbed the second half to the very top.  INCREDIBLE, not to be missed opportunity.  WARNING, if you struggle to walk or have issues with confined spaces, don't do this.  As you get higher up the dome, the steps are extremely narrow and tilt because you are climbing in the dome.   BUT the view of from the top of the dome was breathtaking and will be engraved in my memory for a lifetime.

The inside of the church is impressive and pictures could just never do it justice.  I am so glad that were able to go even though we didn't book tickets in advance.  My advice is book tickets because it's a MUST SEE!

VATICAN MUSEUM
Next up the Vatican Museum.  Get a guided tour!!!!!  It will be so much less overwhelming and you will gain much more history, story and knowledge about what you are seeing. Even if you are not Catholic, we are not, we have an appreciation for history (the good and the bad), the amount of work that has gone into developing and maintaining this place of worship. It's a huge place and you would struggle to see all of it, but with a tour they make it manageable.  We took our tour through City Wonders and would give it ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.

Did you know the pine cones found throughout the gardens of the Vatican, are a symbol of "fertility".  We no longer are adding to our family, but still an omen of good luck I think.

Sistine Chapel is breathtaking.  It is hard not to marvel at the beauty and detail that went into the painting by Michelangelo, and the documentation of the creation of Adam.

Restaurant Alert
After we had walked for several hours, close to 6 hours, we sat down at the nearby restaurant Taveran Lino recommended by our guide and it was delicious!  We ordered a pizza and a salmon salad to share, and some refreshing drinks.  It's steps away from the Vatican and absolutely affordable.  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

SPANISH STEPS
We found the real Spanish Steps early in the evening while strolling the streets of Rome.  As the heat began to wain around 7pm we decided to continue our exploration.  The streets leading up to the Spanish steps were vibrant with street entertainment, cafes, high end shopping and lots of tourists.  We returned to the steps later in the evening and enjoyed as the sun was setting above them.  A must see in the evening.

BORGHESE GARDEN
This garden was on my must see list and we kind of ended up stumbling upon the garden that first evening when we came upon the Spanish Steps.  Once we climbed to the top we kept walking through the streets and came upon it.  It's a huge park that you can walk for hours and we spent a good chunk of time there that evening.  You can spot people walking, jogging, puppies roaming, and a theater in the park that you can watch performances at.  We wondered until the sun was setting and then we were able to look down on Rome from above and it was a beautiful sight to see.

Needlessly to say we collapsed into bed and went to sleep happy after our first full day in Rome.
