Ageless Style: White & Brights

Welcome to another installment of Ageless Style, where women of different ages, stages, shapes and sizes  share their styles.  I love this group of women because they are not only showcasing feeling good at any stage of life,  but also supporting and encouraging others to do the same.  Today the prompt is White & Brights!

I love a good denim skirt in the summer, but I especially like this denim skirt that got an update just by swapping out the blue denim color we are used to with a stark white. I spend most of my time in the summer in the exact same uniform, denim shorts and tank, or in a bathing suit.  So slipping on a white little skirt gives my summer uniform an update while still feeling casual and comfortable.  I choose to pack this skirt on our trip to Mexico this past spring because I knew it would get tons of wear during the day, it's perfect to slip over a bathing suit, but it could also easily be dressed up for dinner in the evening.

This fun and bold, palm tree, off the shoulder top was gifted to me by my sister and I immediately knew that it would pair well with the denim skirt for our beach vacay.  They are a perfect contrast to one another and I loved how this outfit came together for dinner;  causal, sexy, and perfectly summery.

If you are in search of how to update your summer wardrobe, a white denim skirt is a perfect example.  It won't really ever go out of style, and it's so easy to add color, pattern and styles to it from what you already own in your closet!

How would you style a white denim skirt?

My day uniform.

Date night ready!

Spring 2018 Needs and Wants List

Hello everyone.  On Wednesday, I released a Tween Easter Basket Ideas List and today I am focusing on my own needs/wants wish list for spring 2018.  I started to compile a list of things I NEED to replace and things that I really WANT to add to my closet.  I am Type A and lists are my thing.  They keep me from nickel and diming my monthly budget on things that aren't a priority to me and keep me focused when I become overwhelmed by all the choices in the store or online.  I took off January and February off from shopping and only shopped my closet and now I am back with my monthly budget of $100.  In less then a month I am going to Portland for a learning experience and also I will have an opportunity to do some shopping!!!!   This little list should keep me on track while shopping over the next couple of months.  Here we go!

Let's look at what I NEED  for spring.

1.  White Jeans.  Mine ripped  a year and a half ago and I haven't replaced them.  I know, I know, that's crazy.  My plan is to get myself over to ON and get a pair of their Rock star jeans because the price is right, and I love their high-waist fit.

2.  Nude Heels.  These are a staple in my closet.  They go with everything and I wear them on a weekly basis to work.  Dresses, jeans, dress pants, pencil skirt, etc.  I can't live without a pair.  My favorite hands down pumps are the Nine West mid-heel.

That's it for NEEDS, other than a new bra and bikini, which I am not ready to shop for yet.  Now onto the WANTS.  I WANT, I WANT, I WANT....

1.  Straw bag.  Yes, I am in love with this trend and this is one of my splurges for the spring.  I originally wanted the straw bag but wasn't able to ship it to Canada, so I found this great alternative from Zara!  I have ordered it and can't wait to get it next week (fingers crossed).  Zara now has free shipping and returns in Canada.  Oh happy day.

 Bamboo Handbag; Zara Straw Bag

2.  Statement Sleeves and Stripes.  This is my other March purchase from the Bay as it was on sale.  I really wanted a wrap shirt with an oversized bow.  This one has much more than that.  It has bow on the back, fun stripes, embroidery and balloon sleeves.  Oh man, I hope it looks good on me.

I.N.C Embroidered Wrap Shirt;   Option 2: Free People

3.  Denim skirt.  I finally caved last year and got rid of two of my denim skirts.  One was more an office type of denim skirt that was just too big, and the other I picked up for a country concert that I absolutely loved but it always felt a little snug and therefore made me feel self-conscious about my body.  This year I want to purchase one that's just right, not too big, not too small, but just the right size for me.

Zara Denim Skirt; Option 2: Zara Fringed Denim Skirt

4.  Colored denim.  I saw these lavender jeans at the Gap Outlet store on the weekend while shopping with my mom.  I didn't try them on but intend to go back and pick them up probably with my April spending $.  I can just see well they would pair with my new wrap shirt.

5.  SHOES.  I love shoes.  So I want a pair of mules and bright flats.  I found these great options at the Bay but I think I am going to hold off on purchasing them until I go on my trip.  As mentioned above my favorite shoes are Nine West so if I can score some good deals at their outlet store while on my trip, I would be a very happy girl.

6.  Statement earrings.  I am all over fun, colorful, bold, ball earrings this year.  And also colored tassel earrings.  They are such an inexpensive way to add a pop of color to any outfit and with the price being right, I don't mind if I only wear them for a couple of months or for many.

6.  Wrap/ruffle dress.  Okay this isn't for me, but for everyone else.  Dresses are my favorite, next to rompers, to buy.  The truth is I DON'T NEED anymore spring dresses in my closet but if I did, this is the one I'd be drawn to.

What are your needs/wants for spring/summer?

What have I missed?

Oh, and tell me you favorite place to buy a bathing suit.

Ageless Style: Summer to Fall Denim

Welcome to the Ageless Style Link-Up!  Today's prompt, summer denim is brought to you by Jodie of Jodie's Touch of Style.  The denim skirt is continuing to be a popular trend into fall and winter 2023.  I am so excited to add this denim maxi from Garage to my closet for the summer season but I am already thinking about how I can transition into fall.  The length is perfect for a casual work place environment, as well as my casual lifestyle outside of work, making it the perfect addition to my wardrobe.  My favorite part is the slid of course, it's fun and flirty, while staying professional.  This skirt is a heavier denim but doesn't feel heavy on and I am loving the shape.  Although I keep reading that low-rise is coming back, I sure hope not, I am happy to report this sits nicely on my waist, thank you very much.    For reference I am wearing a size small.

Summer Vibes:

For summer I kept it simple with a white knitted tank top, slides (these are not Birkenstocks, rather knock off from Sketcher), and gold jewelry because I am obsessed with gold at the moment.

Fall Vibes:
Transition into fall means layering up to stay warm, so I played with different textures by adding this vegan leather schaket into the mix.  Although schakets are on their way out, I do like this one for a little variation in my closet and so I'll be holding on to it for the time being.  I also absolutely adore the color.  I adding my favorite pair of boots and I love how they peek-a-boo out of the slit.

Before I send you off to check out all the other ladies styles and to link up, I just wanted to let everyone know that I am starting a new job next week and it's going to be amazing but busy school opening for me.  I will be learning a LOT and am also continuing to train for a couple of half-marathons coming up at the end of September.  I will be taking a break from blogging until for sure mid-September and possibly end of September.  I WILL BE BACK, but I just need to focus on my professional learning and growth for the moment.  I will be still popping on and off IG but my presence will be reduced over the next three weeks.  Love you all.

Fall Style on a Teacher Budget

Hi friends.  Today I am sharing a few trends that I am on board with and a few options for you to purchase on a budget.  I just purchased a small haul from H & M to fill the void in my closet, but there are a couple of other trends that I am excited for and may look to bring in over time or will be shopping my closet for.

MAIN TIP: You don't need to have everything, rather focus on a few pieces that you want to use to spice up your current closet.  Shop your closet first and then decide what you want to add.  A specific color, style, or accessory.

#1 Browns & Earth Tones

Brown, specifically chocolate brown, is continuing to show up this fall.  Since I do want to update some of my work trousers, I did purchase one pair of dark brown trousers and a brown cardigan (cardigan's are also very popular this season).  Brown pairs well with blue, black, gray, hunter green and taupe.  Keep it neutral and think sky, water, forest.

H&M Buckle-Detail Dress Pants $29.99

#2 Lace & Leopard Prints

I am combing two trends in one.  I am seeing both of these  a lot in slip skirts.

  • Slip skirts with a lace trim.  I really wanted to add this to my closet but I am waiting to see if the leopard slip skirt is going to be a fit for me before I buy more, plus I already have a dark green floral pattern slip skirt in my closet which I may just use instead.  You can also think of lacey tops, lace trim camisoles, lacey socks or lacey print tights.
Dynamite Lace Trim Slip Skirt $30 (sale)

RW & Co Lacey Top on sale $19.99

  • Leopard print slip skirts.  Leopard print is never out of style, but it's back in a big way this year.  So get a dress, pants, or skirt for the season.  Leopard print is super easy to style once you think of it as a neutral. I purchased the below skirt from H&M and am really hoping it works.  I'll be pairing it with a number of pieces including the  brown cardigan, red knit top for a bold look, crisp white tee, a graphic tee, leather jacket, cozy beige sweaters, and a black turtleneck. The list goes on!
H&M Leopard Print Slip Skirt $29.99

#3 Polo Style Tops
Think Ralph Lauren at the horse track but in a knit.  I purchased a knitted red and blue top that my daughter said gave her the "English riding" vibe and although it doesn't have a collar it still fits into this category.  I also found this gem on the H & M site and am very excited about styling it for casual Fridays with jeans, but also with a suede brown skirt, layered over a collard dress shirt, with a long denim skirt, over trousers, or pairing it up with a little tennis skirt on those dwindling warm summer days.  Also, I know my girls will be borrowing this from my closet so it'll get lots of wear.

H&M Loose-Fit Polo Shirt $34.99

#4 Lightweight Sweaters/Cardigans
Fitted cardigans from like 8 years ago are back big time and can be found in tons of colors like the ones below at really good prices.   I order a brown one, a blue one and I really would like to also add a gray one.  They are perfect as a layering piece over tanks, camisoles or dresses, or on their own as a top.  You instantly look put together when wearing a cardigan!

H&M Cable Knit Cardigan $34.99

I also, added a lightweight sweater that like a polo shirt can be layered with a collared shirt or a turtleneck, or work on it's own.  Sweaters that have a touch of "preppy" to them are having a big moment.  Think lady like, gold or special buttons or even broches.

H&M Red Knit Sweater $44.99

#5 Slouchy Bags and Oversized Tote Bags
I am kind of seeing both of these out in the world right now.  I am not purchasing one because I already have a suede (another big trend) brown slouchy like purse so I don't need to invest money into that.  That being said let's look at the two options.
  •  A slouchy purse is perfect for completing any outfit and isn't too large but fits everything you need.
Gap Suede Slouchy Bag $89.99

  • The oversized tote bag is perfect if you are lugging a laptop on the go to meetings, a university student, or are a parent of a small child but don't want to carry a diaper bag.  So you decide, what's best for your situation.
Simons Large Square Tote Bag $89

There are lots of other trends out there such as dark denim for jeans, faux fur jackets, plaid,  dresses and skirts with tons of volume, etc.  In this post my goal was o stay with the average person in mind and what they might have in their closets and how they can incorporate a few new pieces to update their wardrobe for fall while being selective and sticking to a budget.

One thing I will be splurging on are a few new pairs of shoes, including new loafers in a nuteral color like white or tan, and I would love to get a pair of Mary-Janes, and also I need to update my regular black heels.  Also, slouchy boots are having a moment and lucky for me I already have a pair!

Let me know if this post was helpful, what you want to see more of, or what trends you are excited about.  Over on IG I will be showcasing some of these pieces over the month of September so that you can see how I am styling them for fall 2025.

Fashion Friday: Frayed skirt, Tassels and Cold Shoulders

This outfit is polar opposite of last weeks Fashion Friday post which was all about weekend, casual wear.  Though I love the casual looks for weekends, and sometimes at the office, I  felt not only comfortable in the this but super stylish and on point.  I love everything about this transitional winter-to-spring outfit, but especially this frayed skirt.  The skirt is a few years old but with frayed denim all the rage this spring, I was inspired to dig it out and give it some attention.  It paired up so well with my favorite cable knit sweater, also styled HERE, and these fantastic new chandler, tassel earrings I purchased recently from a friend.  I love the way they dangle from my ears and they make such a statement on their own that I didn't feel any need to add more glitz and glitter.

Since it's still fairly cold here, I grabbed my trusted faux fur jacket and these adorable little gloves that I received as a gift from a student a couple of years ago.  Overall I felt like a million bucks in this outfit!
